Last week before I quit smoking…

Welcome to my weblog which shall function as a diary of my attempt to quit smoking. Just to give you the background on myself: I am 56 years old, IT professional, divorced, have 2 grown-up kids and live in NYC. I have been smoking more or less since I was 17, reaching about 2 packs per day during my ‘peak’ but now do around 1-1.5 per day on average. I must have had made between 10-12 attempts to quit smoking during my life, of which 3-5 were serious and almost successful. However, I never really managed. I am addicted, and to be honest, I just love cigarettes. Recent developments over the past year made me seriously reconsider my addiction: I started getting more serious health problems and my doctor strongly urged me to end smoking once and for all. My kids have gotten very serious (and skilled) in trying to convince me to quit as well…I have succumbed to the pressure and have decided to put an end to my addiction.
This blog will be a way for me to record my daily experiences in trying to quit smoking. I am not sure whether anyone will read this, but at least for myself it will be a diary whereby I can always look back to check my progress (or not!).. And who knows, maybe it can inspire others as well! I hope to contribute to this blog on a daily basis, sharing my experiences and thoughts, and methods I use. I have decided to finally quit on 1 December, so I have 1 week of smoking left. I will use my last week to enjoy the cigarettes and to sort out my definite strategy to quit… Wish me luck!

If you have to do it, you might as well do it right
