quit smoking alternatives
Being a former heavy smoker, and since a few months a big supporter of electronic smoking, I still closely follow new developments in the field of smoking cessation. I just read about certain herbal cigarettes, which don’t contain tobacco or nicotine, but do have a mix of herbal ingredients which intend to give you the same satisfaction as traditional cigarettes. I will be trying these soon and will be sure to post an update on that here on my blog.
Until then, i am still very happy with my electronic cigarette. New models, flavoured cartridges and now also new smoking cessation devices keep coming on the market.. these are the right times to try new quit smoking techniques!
new e-cigarette models
As a fan of e-cigarettes and closely following their impact on people attempting to quit smoking, I am increasingly reading about new types of e-cig models. New models with different kinds of flavoured cartridges, different colored tips etc are coming on the market. I guess it won’t take long before they start deliverying vitamins etc within the cartridges as well!
I recently ordered the New Smoke TCS e-cigarette, which can actually charge your e-cig on the go whilst in the box. I have to say this is a perfect way to both transport and store the e-cig (incl. cartridges), whilst charging it at the same time. The TCS model vapes very well, out of all the models i have tested, i think this is actually the best one in terms of quality, durability and ’smoke’ production.
If you found any other crazy, cool, innovative additions to e-cig models out there, please let me know in the comments!
dubai bans electronic cigarettes
In a unfortunate move, Dubai is now also planning to ban the electronic cigarette. A special kind of taskforce responsible for tobacco control in the GCC (Gulf cooperation council) found the e-cigarettes to be “very dangerous and containing a lots of hazards to the health” (source article here). I still can’t believe the utter amateuristic analyses done by these medical professionals with regards to the e-cigarette.
Just look at this ridiculous quote from the above taskforce:
On the contrary, e-cigarette “will encourage smoking more and more,” especially among children, because “they can easily hide it as there is no fume and no smoke.
“Even if the father is sitting nearby, they can smoke and hide it in their pocket. It is very dangerous as it could encourage users to smoke more and more,” she emphasised.
To read a FDA claims of the ‘dangers’ of e-cigarettes, check out this article from the WSJ, written by Dr. Elizabeth Whelan (president of American Council of Science and Health), which is by far the best refute of FDA claims i have seen thusfar
support the e-cigarette
It’s been a while since i last updated my quit-smoking blog, but much has happened. I am happy to say that i successfully managed to put down the cancer sticks, and have to admit that the electronic cigarette was an essential medium in getting this far. I am now a daily smoker of the e-cig, admittedly with high nicotine cartridges. However, as we all know by now, they don’t contain all the dangerous substances found in traditional cigs, and i am definitely noticing it! I feel alot healthier, can jog much longer than before, feel more ‘vibrant’. I am recommending the e-cigarette to my friends as well as a method to finally quit smoking.
Unfortunately, the FDA (with no doubt backing from the large tobacco companies) is cracking down on the use of e-cigarettes, and portraying them as dangerous substances (excuse me, more dangerous than cigs with carcinogens which kill millions yearly, whereby e-cig deaths are ZERO??). I recently read about the electronic cigarette association, a non-profit institution to bring forward the truth of e-cigarettes (the site has alot of good info about e-cigs in general!).
If you’re a supporter of e-cigarettes just like me, please pass on their link, sign the petition, and tell your friends about this new tech.
Pictures of electronic cigarette factory
I saw a news article on google today about pictures which were released by New Smoke (manufacturer of e-cigarettes): these are the first pictures which demonstrate how electronic cigarettes are produced (in their facility in China). As you can see in the pictures of the electronic cigarette factory, I honestly need to say I am positively surprised: the facility looks a lot cleaner, hygienic and professional than I expected. It’s good that an e-cig brand finally shows in what kind of environment their products are being made!
and the battle continues…
First of all, forgive me for my infrequent blog updates..
I have been following the developments concerning electronic cigarettes quite closely in the past few days. As you can read on e-cignews.com (great site to stay updated about e-cigs by the way), FDA is closing down on the e-cig market. Canada has banned them as well. Reasons being too little proof for them being safe enough to be available on the market..
In my humble opinion, it’s all ridiculous. As a health expert who had previously worked with WHO stated, anyone who believes that e-cigs are more dangerous than normal cigarettes should go back to school to get some basic science classes. Read an excellent article on the tobacco lobby and the e-cigarette market here (that’s also where the quote is from).

the legal status of e-cigarettes worldwide
Since I discovered electronic cigarettes a couple of months ago, I have been quite intrigued by how they are sweeping the market and the number of brands entering the market. As can be expected a product which is so close to being a medicinal product / electronic gadget / tobacco product, authorities of countries aren’t quite sure how to deal with the e-cig. I compiled an overview of the legal status of the e-cigarette across countries worldwide. Remarkable is the difference between certain countries, ranging from a complete ban in countries such as Hong Kong and Singapore and completely no restrictions in countries like UK. My guess is that the FDA is currently reviewing e-cigs in the USA, so at the moment they’re completely legal but can’t be marketed as smoking cessation devices. Will be interesting to follow these developments and to see the results of the FDA testing of the e-cigarettes! If you have any updates on this list, please let me know and I will edit it! Just leave a comment on this post, thanks!
